Standard Set Answer:Interesting on methods to capture experience outside the classroom
Anyone can follow a study group on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. Please answer the following set(s) of questions if you want to become a participant or organizer.
This set of signup questions is common to all study groups, courses, ... in P2PU. The answers to these questions will be public once you get accepted.

Location: Sheffield, UK
Standard Set Answer:Currently working on an 'open' (well, at least to the students in our school initially!) learning approach to KS3 ICT using games-based principles. Would like to explore whether 'badges' offer an alternative mechanism through which progress can be monitored (or rewarded?)
Need to hear the words of people wiser than myself and see whether what I'm working on has merit ... or is simply just fanciful.
Happy to help in any way I can.

Standard Set Answer:This looks like a fantastic course and every relevant to some of the work we are doing - at P2PU and with Mozilla. I won't be able to actively contribute very much, but registered as a "participant" (and not "folllower") to see all the notifications.
Good luck with the course! P

Standard Set Answer:I'm interested in alternative forms of accreditation. As I see it the university system exploits both students (in the form of overpriced tuition) and teachers (in the form of low wages/benefits) without adding much value to the student-teacher realtionship. For the kinds of classes that I teach (studio art classes) the only thing of value that the university adds is accrediation. If we can find alternative ways to make education "count" then it will allow students and teachers to take control of the student-teacher relationship and define it for ourselves, including defining the economics of the relationship.
I plan on taking one of the classes that I have previously taught at Syracuse "University" and teach it at an alternative school. I'd like to offer something like real, universally recongized academic credit for the class, and I'm hoping that the Open Badges Project can help me do this. To be very pratical, I'm hoping to figure out how to do this by participating in this group.
I'd be happy to help organize if I can but I'm unsure what to offer.

Standard Set Answer:Using badges for credentialing and tracking learning is intriguing. This concept could be useful to me and the organization(s) with which I am involved.
Understand the basics of the Mozilla open badge project.
I am a "hit and miss" participant and thus would not be very dependable as an organizer for the group.

I've worked in Australian vocational education and training for the last 18 years including 9 years in the Australian Flexible Learning Framework.
I'm currently undertaking a Masters in Journalism and plan to specialise in new media and new models of journalism.
Location: australia
Standard Set Answer:I'm not even sure what the topic is yet!
This looks a bit more structured than a MOOC, so I figure I"ll give it a go. The badge idea in particular interests me as I'd like to be part of any movement that democratises learning and provides opportunities for people to acquire and get recognition for skills, knowledge and experience. I'm also playing with the idea of doing an Open PhD in new media/new models of journalism and journalism education following my masters so that's another reason I'm having a bit of a look.
Sure I'm happy to help with study group or other tasks. Am assuming this'll be part of the introductiory setup.
Cheers

Standard Set Answer:I am interested in challenging the traditional educational paradigm and finding ways to engage and enthuse less 'academic' learners.
I hope to find out more about how the project will work, as although it appears to be a good idea I'm keen to see how it will work in practice.
I would be prepared to help with organisation but can't commit any significant time to it.
