A: I have some experience with Matlab and this topic is an opportunity to learn a free, interpreted environement focused on scientific applications.

Standard Set Answer:Did some basic programming in python, want to learn it for real. Basically I only want to open source free software where possible so get rid of Matlab and SPSS.. replace with python and R.
