Effective Networking - Resources and Conversation

Connecting with other people so that they know who we are and what our organizations do is important for a successful career. We all do it, how can we get better at it? Here are some resources SWOYP put together on networking. 52% of the women Katie Corner, our volunteer mentor coordinator in the San Francisco Bay Area, polled said they wanted to know more about how to network at conferences, so SWOYP has a few resources that directly speak to that.

Networking is always a lot of fun. It's a great to share interests with people and open up to new personal and business connections. It can be harder to connect with other brillant techies that are quiet. Asking large sets of questions, as oppose to open ended converstation flows can be awkward, but still meaning ful to have. I'm striving to make those quieter folks more comfortable with opening up with someone new. I can be quite the boisterous talker, gee thanks Dad. Which means talking a little softer, a little slower and sprinkling words of encouragement and agreement into what they are saying is important.

One of my very very quiet girls is actually the most committed, and heard her really talking to her classmate as they went through the App Inventor tutorials. I think she really is into step by step problem solving adventures.
