Get a Hosting Service

Ask your peers to find out what are the best options and order your hosting account.

In this task you're going to seek the advice of your peers about which hosting company they do business with and why. It should take about 20 minutes. You're going to use that information as the basis for your own decision on who you're going to do business with.

Each of your peers who've completed this challenge should have a blog post called "Hosting & DNS" that they created as part of this challenge. Read through as many of these blog posts as you need to in order to begin to form your own opinions and ideas about which hosting company you're going to use. Where possible use the comments section on their blog to ask questions if anything is unclear.

Typically you'd want to make sure that whoever you choose has a support level that you're happy with (you may need to get in touch with them if something doesn't work) and that the price is within your budget. Many hosting companies offer a money back guarantee incase you're not happy so this may be worth bearing in mind.

When you've got a good idea of which hosting company you want to use then spend a few minutes searching the web to see if you can find any additional information (good or bad) that influences your decision.

When you're satisfied that you're going to be looked after by the company you've decided to do business with, go ahead and order your hosting account.

I've got my hosting through http://e-velocity.co.uk/

*disclaimer* e-velocity is a company run by a friend of mine. I figured if any profit was to be made from hosting my site, I'd prefer it to go to someone I know and like, and when I call up with any issues, I get to have a nice chat too.

Possibly not the most business-like reasons to choose a host, but they work for me!

I am currently going with ooowebhost for several reasons: One of which is free hosting. 100GB monthly traffic is big enough for my needs - which is really not much. There is also enough space for storage and many other things: You can read a simple tutorial I created today on how to get up and running with it. Check it out please and leave me a comment and a link to your own blog. Thanks

I wrote about this challenge/opic over at my P2PU blog, The Vistor in a short post titled: Choosing from a Host of Hosts. I also listed the qualities that I look for in a good hosting service.

I'm hosting my websites with 000host.com. So far its going good. But it is'nt suitable for websites with daily visitors more then 500 and running lot of web scripts. They even suspend the websites which uses lot of CPU. So, for personal websites, small and medium businesses which generally have low traffic can go for it.

    Hi Everyone,

You can read my blog post here:  http://gjpconsulting.wordpress.com/2012/10/25/hosting-dns/

Or for quick reference, my answer to this question was to use GoDaddy.com as they have been good before and were easy to setup this time, plus were pretty inexpensive.

    Thanks.

I do know websites themselves offer hosting, like redstone and yahoo....and ofcourse godaddy. Im pretty sure all major web companies(google, etc) have their own services and such. Only thing ive helped host is MisfitActual.com. Every other website ive hosted is now down....

I actually didn't know that I need a hosting site as well as a registration. It makes sense! In certain sense, I am already doing this, but to know it explicitly is great.

As someone already concluded : lots of paid hosting sites, but few free good ones. I was thinking about blogspot.com (www.blogger.com so google blog hosting), also WordPress (paid), but there's also wix.com easy and a quick dirty start for personal (also paid)

Mashable.com has a great article on hosts

    http://mashable.com/2011/07/10/small-business-website-budget/

I think I like Snap Pages the most because it enables me to create great websites for very little time. That is the sustainable way before i get pro

People use various sites below, but I haven't found any I like.

My sites, seoboosters.com.ua, mazepa-fest.org.ua and others, are hosted on UAHOSTING. This is a Ukrainian hosting provider. They have servers in Ukraine and in Germany and my sites are hosted on one of the German servers.

I pay 30 USD per year and can have up to 10 sites. So far I'm happy with this provider.

A couple of years ago my sites were hosted on ipage.com. I was fooled by their flashy ads that promised unlimited space, unlimited sites and unlimited everything for just 2 or 3 dollars per month. It was a big mistake to order their hosting. It was REALLY slow (at that time I had just a couple of wordpress sites) and their tech support could never help me.

I learned a good lesson - 1. don't trust hosting reviews, 2. avoid hosting providers that promise to give you unlimited resources for a very small fee, 3. ask you friends, who have more experience in that field, to recommend you some good provider 4. choose your local provider - then you can speak to them in you native language.

Okay, so this is where things start to get a little tricky for me.

Right now, I use GoDaddy as my registrar, but I use "Not a Cloud in the Sky" as my host.

What's the tricky part? Well, NACITS is a private hosting solution, offered in partnership with http://sapphiresolutionsltd.com/ and http://bamajr.com/, so essetially, I'm my own host.

I have my own cloud-based, virtual server environment. The small server farm is located at the same place I'm located. I own all the servers, network equipment and hardware used to run my system. Finally, I manage and administer the system.

    So...

I'm not going out and subscribing to another host, when I have everything under the sun, right next to me.
