Anyone can follow a course on P2PU. Participating is the next level of engagement. The sign-up is a space where interested individuals can express their interest and background in the topic and commit to working with the rest of the participants. Please answer the following set(s) of questions if you want to become a participant or organizer.

  I am an engineer at Google. In my free time I do a bunch of teaching, and I help with a lot of the outreach at work.

  I enjoy programming, and I enjoy sharing the love with people -- I started teaching programming to beginners last year as a hobby.   I teach web development (server-side) and also act as a mentor within a couple of PHP-related user groups.  I'd really like to learn what advice I could/should be giving and what kinds of approaches work for people learning on their own, who might not be the same personality type as me.  I am happy to help out with organisation, no idea what I have that would help, but if I can, I will.

  I have worked as an electrical engineer, taken time off for family and am looking for ways to update my skills.  I loved engineering (problem solving, debugging, constantly learning new things, collaboration, etc) but could not make a 50-60hr/wk job work for my family and I.  I am excited about opportunities to learn that are flexible and allow me to collaborate with others remotely.  Part of my challenge with traditional engineering jobs is the lack of flexibility.  I see sw and web dev as areas that may have more flexiblity.  There are a number of women engineers who would love to re-enter the workforce if they could just figure out how to make it work (ie: part time work, project-based work, remote).  It appears that even the resources (ie: open source sw projects)  for updating/learning sw skills are more user-friendly than updating EE skills (ie: traditionally more on-the-job training).

  After graduating from college, I found that the learning track I'd been on (Biomedical Engineering) did not map to what I wanted to accomplish in the world. Thankfully, I was young and naive and didn't let that get in the way. I moved out to San Francisco and started on a self directed learning journey in entrepreneurship and web product design/management.

  Like most everyone, I'm curious. Along with a few friends, I started unclasses.org as a way for people to express their learning intentions and organize with other members of their community to teach and learn. I've been following and participating in "free range learning" through unclasses and beyond. 

  Currently, I'm trying to learn web application development with the material that is available at places like tryruby.org and railzforzombies.org. I believe that, like many disciplines, the content one needs to learn web app dev is available online, but needs to be further currated and matched with learning communities.

  I would like to teach webcraft as part of my own learning journey.
