After many years working in a large IT shop I ended up on the wrong side of a hostile takeover and chose to try something different.
My my girlfriend and I sold everything and moved lock stock and barrel to a remote lake in British Columbia where we opened a Bed and Breakfast called The Canim Lake Beach House. I now split my time between running the B&B and doing all types freelance IT work.
Hands on coding is what got me interested in IT work to start with so I'm trying to keep my coding skillset current so I can keep doing the fun stuff.
Location: Canim Lake, BC, Canada
Standard Set Answer:
I'm interested in this topic because I do contract IT work but my strength is in the back-end development. I can make application work but making things look pretty has never been my stron suite I know the basics of CSS and can code stylesheets but sometimes I struggle with things that should be simple.
I hope to get a better understanding of CSS techniques to make me better at coding the fornt end of web applications.
This is my first p2pu course so I'm not sure what I'm in for. I could help with the study group organization but I'd be more comfortable waiting untile I have at least one course under my belt and know how this works before I start being the organizer.
Public Set Answer:
1 - I do contract web development work and can code stylesheets but it is all self learned and is not my strength. I`m comfortable understanding an modifying existing style sheets but struggle with anything but the basics when coding from scratch.
2 - Start with the basics - how to position DIVs in a browser window and within themselves. Cross browser complient techniques for aligning text and images and then move to more advance concepts and cool css tricks.
3 - I can work with CSS but I spend alot of time searching the web for `how do I do this` I need a better understanding of the fudimentals.

Helping others is high on my priorities. This course CSS is just the first one I chosse because I need the knowlege so I can start to correct my issues. At the moment that is all that I can tell you. Because I am rather clueless in CSS. Although my pages work, I spend a lot of time in frustration and getting it to work through trial and error. I would like to know what I'm doing exactly and how I can improve my css ( and overall web programming + designing skills).
I hope to learn, contribute and get to know friends!
