To the shock and awe of those who know me, I have never been arrested; a fact I'm thinking of adding to my resume. I am a competition archer (yes, I'm allowed to play with dangerous weapons), and am returning to school to study vocal music. I am in my early 20's, but am notorious for taking a few years off my age for good behavior, so the validity of the age I cited above is questionable. I look forward to this course and, hopefully, getting to meet all the other lunatics here. You know who you are; revel in it, don't deny it.
Location: Chicago, IL
Standard Set Answer:
I am in the process of becoming a vocal music major, so being interested in music, though not mandatory, comes in handy.
I want to be well versed in music and music theory, of course. Sorry, I had to say that, I'm incapable of resisting my stupid impulses ( not that I'd want to, since my stupid impulses amuse me more than my intelligent ones, which I can resist), which leads me to say and do both moronic and questionable things. Seriously, though, one can never be too knowledgeable about music, and, if serious about it, interested people should always endeavor to strengthen whatever familiarity they have or want to have with it.
You have only to ask, and I will gladly oblige. I will even wave my usual fee of 4 twinkies per hour.
Public Set Answer:
Saying that I love music is a ls almost simplistic; I LIVE for music.
I definitely want to learn more about music, otherwise, I'm in the wrong course.
I hope to learn whatever I don't already know, which could be a time-consuming, borderline futile goal.
As someone considering studying vocal music as a serious career path after a lengthy absence, I am eager to take any opportunity that comes my way to refresh my knowledge.

Standard Set Answer:
I've wanted to get better at music only in the last couple of years. I treated my K-12 music education as mainly something to complete instead of immerse myself in and really enjoy.
I hope to get a better, more mature understanding of music. And I hope in better understanding it, I'll be better able to explore and play with it as I start to create more musical compositions.
Unfortunately I can't prioritize helping with course organization, but I look forward to learning and am greatful for those who are organizing!
Public Set Answer:
i think I'm seeing (or hearing?) more and more the value and mystery and power of music. I'm not sure if I "love" it since I don't follow music in all facets of my life and am not on the cutting trends. But I do "love" what it can do for me and others, and how it's composed.
I'm excited to learn a bit more about the systems behind music. I've studied systems thinking and only recently have tried to create and produce more art instead of just consuming it. So I'm really excited to learn more and have a bit more background in this medium.
I especially want to learn the theory behind it, so it can help inform how I might compose tracks and songs. I feel I have a self-trained ear for certain rhythms and geometries of music, but I want to get a bit more formal and standardized training.
I think this course will give me that background that I'm looking for, in a structured way, which will help me to get through these core concepts.
