Standard Set Answer:
What made you interested in this topic?
I have been learning, designing, and facilitating online for a while and would like to stay current with new, good ideas in this field. And truth be told, I have taken several workshops with Karen and learned lots in the process.
What do you hope to achieve by participating?
I hope to learn about new approaches to online learning and tools for making it as effective as possible; I hope to engage in a vibrant learning community of online learning-interested educators; and I hope to shape a new online project or two in the process and perhaps even 'learn' an open-source LMS (beyond Moodle). I also hope to share my experiences in a useful way with others.
Are you interested in helping with the course organization?
I am happy to do so if that's a need. I did add some comments to the syllabus, which seems quite strong to me.
Public Set Answer:
Have you taught online or are you committed to doing so in the near future?
Yes, I have taught online and plan to teach online this school year, at least 3-4 times.
This course involves developing online course materials. (See sylllabus.)
Please address your ability to do that and talk about what online course materials you plan to develo forp this course and on what platform.
I have a fair bit of experience developing online learning course materials, and am also open to new ways of doing so. I have an online course, Effective Online Learning, that I am in the process of redesigning, so this workshop will be a great chance to to that redesign. I will be using Moodle as my development platform.
I am open to learning about another LMS beyond Moodle. Not sure I will have time for this, but it would be interesting to build a week / unit / activity in Moodle, and then build the same item in another LMS, preferably open source -- then compare the two.
Look at the sylllabus for this course. Are there any comments or changes you'd like to suggest, either for the group or for yourself individually? Can you commit to the tasks described?
I added comments to the syllabus just now. Commitments: I do plan to design my assessments just after my learning goals are set, so I'm committed personally to that suggestion. The other suggestion, about having an asynch sharing of projects, in addition to the synch Webinar -- I can and am willing to help with that asynch sharing if help is needed.
What do you think you can contribute to this course on online and blended learning? (At P2PU, peer learing is a focus, which means that everyone is both a learner and a teacher.)
I can contribute a fair bit of experience as an online learner, designer, and facilitator -- but mostly I bring an open mind and the willingness to learn from others. I work hard to listen well and ask a few useful questions.

I teach US history in a traditional setting at a suburban high school. I have been part of a teaching group that has led our district in integrating Blackboard into our day to day teaching. While it has been overwhelming at times, it has been exciting!
Location: Ohio
Standard Set Answer:
The high school in which I teach is interested in investigating online hybrid learning models. I teach US History and am interested in developing a course that both maintains the high standards my district expects and also meshes with my teaching style.
Public Set Answer:
I am committed to teaching an online class in the 2012 - 2013 school year. I am relatively tech savvy and am not fearful about tyring new things. I have used discussion boards and wikis in my classroom, but am looking for more guidance and structure as I move forward in structuring an entire class on this model rather than just projects and units here and there throughout the year. I like to collaborate with others and have a strong work ethic.

Bio:
I am the Technology Integration Coordinator for the Medina CIty Schools in suburban Cleveland, Ohio. This year we implemented Blackboard LMS in our high school and teachers are learning how to integrate this tool into their traditional classroom. Unfortunately, we have had to lay off several teachers over the past two years for financial reasons and this means that some student class offerings have been eliminated. I would like to see us utilize Blackboard to offer hybrid and eventually online classes to our students so that we can increase the number of options available to students. Right now we are losing students to other educational providers who do offer hybrid and online classes to meet our student's needs. If we can develop our own classes, we will be able to retain our students and potentially offer our classes to students outside of our district. We have some awesome teachers who are working this year to develop hybrid offerings for next year and we look forward to collaborating with our P2PU colleagues to make this a reality for our students.
Location: Ohio
Standard Set Answer:
As the Technology Integration Coordinator, one of my primary responsibilities is to integrate blended learning models into our school district. I am currently working with a team of teachers who are interested in offering blended classes next year.
I plan to learn ideas and insight into developing successful blended learning opportunities for students and teachers.
I would be happy to help with course organization.
Public Set Answer:
I am committed to helping teachers in my district offer blended classes next year.
We utilize Blackboard in our district and I would be able to help develop content in mathematics. I constantly research and implement web based tools for learning and would be able to integrate those through Blackboard into a blended classroom.
Not at this time.
I think that I would be able to contribute creative ideas and a fresh look at education. I am professionally committed to changing the current model of education to one that is technologically rich, student-centric, and relevant.

I am a technology coordinator at the Santa Clara County Office of Education in San Jose, CA. I work with districts developing models for blended/ online instruction and professional development.
Location: San Jose, Ca
Standard Set Answer:
I am interested in this topic as I see online learning as a great way to allow students to learn at a pace and direction that is appropriate to their needs. This is a model of learning that we are promoting at the county office.
I hope to learn how to design an effective course online that can be used in a blended environment. Appropriate assessments is also a big interest, particularly using protfolios or other types of authentic assessment.
I would be interested in helping with the course in any way that I can.
Public Set Answer:
I have taught several short professional development series online, but not as a K-12 teacher. However I do see this as a key part of my future development.
I would be interested in developing an online course for STEM project design, a course that would guide students through designing a science/ engineering project possibly for competition. I am currently geting my Master's degreee in insructional design and have designed seveal online lessons/ courses for degree work. I plan on using Moodle for the platform as we host that at our county office.
Some key areas that I think are essential for online courses is promoting a collaborative environment - how do you get students to evaluate each other ideas effectively, and the second part is assessment - other than quizzes what are some alternatives ways for students to demonstrate mastery.
I have a strong technical background and practice using many 2.0 tools, I try to be very active in giving feedback to posted ideas/ questions, and have some experience in e-portfolios that I would like to expand.
