In this course participants will wonder about, discuss, define, test out, and redefine student engagement.

The teaching term "student engagement" has a wide and varied usage in education.  In this course participants will share, enlarge, adapt, and redefine their ideas about engagement through watching videos, reading articles, trying out methods in their own classrooms, and by sharing and challenging each other. Together we will share the pros/cons, challenges and ease of different engagement methods to help students learn. Our focus will be on  open dialogue about all methods and the elements and nature of engagement itself. This course begins September 26 and ends November 6.

    Hi Tom,

    Are you getting more comfortable finding your way around the course?  It is similar to a webpage or blog, in that it has links at the top under the title that take you back through the hierachy of the pages, and then links along the left hand side bottom, that give you the main course topics.  The comment buttons are easy to miss because they are gray and at the top right of the pages.  Each task has its own page and so it has its own comment button.  The comments and replies then show at the bottom of the page like you might see in a blog.  Is this helpful?

    Thanks, Bonita. Yes, I am swimming my way through all the tabs, sidebars and links :)

    If I might make a suggestion it would be to find a way to show posts that one has read-- I find myself clicking back on posts that I discover afterwards I've already seen. Now I would agree that repetition is always an aid in the learning process, but it just seems like it might be more effective to see a differentiation between what I need to read and what I don't necessarily need to view again.

    I've started my learning blog for the class. Where do I post that or link to that?

    Hi Tom,

    Good thinking.  I agree.  I will pass your thoughts on to the folks involved with development of the P2PU site.

    I am using 2 ways to discern what I have read (from what I have not read).  The first is that I read the wall, and I can see who has posted since my last post.  That generally gives me a good idea what is new.  (I find my wall when I go to my course home page).  The second thing is that I get email notifications.  I click on the link in the email and that generally takes me to new posts that I have not yet read.

    If you provide the link to me through either email or by posting it to the class, then I can add it to the links tab for our course, which, now that you have made me think about it, might be a good place to store people's blog info.  Also, Mireille is planning to start a wiki and that would also be a good place to put our blog links.

    I am planning to hold an optional webinar on Saturday.  That might be a good time to further discuss how to manage the pages.

    In the meantime, I am glad you are on board and do not hesitate if there is anything else I can help with.

    Thanks for the input, Tom. I agree. Fyi, I'm working with the P2PU dev team and keeping a list of suggestions for future development. It's a very new platform and we're making irmprovements all the time, so keep the feedback coming!
