I hope to achieve a greater understanding of php and how to implement and use its functions to improve my website design and function.
I am not very interested in course organization.
I want to learn php because Wordpress (CMS) utilizes php to access and display database information. I use Wordpress often and also would like to create a database of plant information for plants that grow in my climate. Plants being my first passion and web design my second this idea just felt natural.

I'm not jet interested in helping with the organization, but i might be later on.
Why I want to learn PHP is that in my studies you process a lot of data and sometimes I think the software to do so can be better. So I want to learn a bit about programming so I can use it to better analize my data.

I hope to enjoy the company of other enthusiastic programmers (newbies like me to veteran programmers) and pick up tips and tools of the trade in the process. Eventually I look forward to becoming a web programmer with a great company or continue freelancing in my own business.

It is a valuable language to learn. It is also a good foundational programming language for OOP if you choose to go that route.
