Thoughts about "Be you" [March 19, 2012, 8:23 p.m.]
"Be you" (recently rebranded from "detox) is new to the community of teachers using Youth Voices. Help us understand this practice better by keeping notes on your own experiences with it. And if you use it with students, what they are saying.
Purpose/Goals:
- Let kids learn alone and not be imposed upon by the agendas of others
- Purging yourself from all of those other voices, getting back to a natural state of learning
- We want you to be you.
- What have you been noticing, dreaming about, connecting to (people & ideas), and doing?
- Not just about this class, but about your life in general.
Experimenting with the idea.
No rules... say what you want... on camera
Interesting Channel to explore in Youth Voices.
Consider: Is a young person’s sense of audience and privacy different from ours?
Something fun about being personal and public.
Goal is to be public with your thoughts
Please continue to experiment with "Be you" -- keeping it real for your own learning for a few weeks.
Here are some of the first "Be you" videos by New York City teachers who are participants in a Youth Voices Study Group sponsored by the New Yokr City Writing Project.
