  We just look good on paper. Watch us in action and you'll see a bunch of lost parents trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

  Thanks for the consolation, Bon! I'm excited for the meat of this course because I know there's so much that I don't know, so I'll be like a sponge just taking it all in. Honestly, I don't even know where to begin like with the example I used in my theory question of the little girl who has no 1:1 correspondence. I'm eager to hear from people with experience!

  My 11 year old son can not tell whether 5 is more or less than 2.. he has a learning disability that we do not know how to overcome yet. You may want to learn not only about math education, but special cases as well, in order to solve the question about that girl.

  Thanks, Julia.  Actually, I am working on learning a bit about special cases; this is one of my final courses for my master's and certification in special ed.  I'm looking forward to adding to my arsenal of possible ways to approach different situations.  Like you, I also have some personal experience with disabilities.  The child I mentioned is actually my daughter who has moderate to severe intellectual disabilities (MR), CP, and various other diagnoses as the result of a brain injury.  In addition, my son is diagnosed with Asperger's and, while he is creatively and linguistically gifted, his math skills are very below average. My original certification is English secondary ed so I've never explored math pedagogy. This should be quite educational.  It's great to "meet" you!

  I look forward to learning more details and exploring this with you , Julia. My business partner is a social scientist and counselor and is doing tons of research on math learning right now. I wonder what his thoughts would be. Let me know if you want me to share your story with him or connect you two.
