Lessons are pointless unless students are engaged and the art of a teacher is to find ways to engage students; encouraging and motivating them to actively learn!

Been a teacher for almost 20 years and still loving every minute of it! I currently teach middle school (or key stage 3) science and IT. I am very interested in integrating technology in the classroom and am a serious Mac addict!

So, I want to be able to motivate them to learn and be comfortable with English sot hat they will be successful in science (which I teach) and every other subject they are taking.
By attending this study group, I want to learn techniques that will help me engage English as second language learners. I also want to learn techniques on how to engage students of different learning levels and different "hyperactivity" levels.

Engaged, my blog
Location: Asheville, NCStandard Set Answer:
I believe engaging students is one of the fundamental skills a teacher (of anything) must excel at in order for the classroom to be a productive environment. If my students are not engaged in the learning, they are not very likely to learn. I hope to improve my practice so that all of my students may benefit from engaging lessons and units to become more literate citizens of the world.

Director at the Wolf Creek Online High School where I have been employed for the past 10 years.
Location: Chisago City MNStandard Set Answer:
I am most interested in the topic of student motivation due to the fact that I am an administrator in an online setting. Motivating students in the online world is different from traditional motivation techniques and something I want to explore further. I hope to share results with my staff of 12 people in my charter school setting.
I hope to learn concrete motivation techniques that have worked for others and use them in my current setting by the end of the course.
I am not interested in helping with course organization at this time-thanks
I'm a Preschool Ed. Teacher but involved in Teacher Training since 2004. Currently I'm México Country Coordinador of the Non Profit Teachers Without Borders. I'm in permanent search for P.D. opportunities for myself and the colleagues I work with.

Almost every time I have the opportunity to work with teachers I finish my participation with mixed feelings... Some teachers get over excited about the contents, while others just sit in the back and watch, they decide not to engage in conversations or activities and I really get worried if it's me, it's the content, it's their personality, their learning style, maybe... I want to be able to deal with those participants or at least with my frustration. Of course I always wonder what do they do in their own classrooms when they face the same situation... Maybe through this course I will get to know the reason for the lack of motivation and ways to change that. I expect to engage in meaningful conversations about the topic and if we don't end up with the right answers and become super engaging teachers, at least we would have shared our experiences and come back to the classroom with new strategies to motivate our students. If at this point there is still a way to collaborate with the course organization, I would love to do it, time is limited, but the interest in t.p.d. and my respect for this project is big!
