Bio:
I am a qualified teacher (of English, of Italian as L2/FL, and a teacher for handicapped students) in Italy. Actually I am doing a research doctorate and I will complete my studies in December 2013 researching in Modern Literatures and Philological - Linguistic Studies with a thesis on Virtual Worlds and Social Networks for Language Teaching (prosody approach through Process Drama). I have been teaching in public schools, at all levels, for over eleven years. Practical and theoretical work that I have completed throughout my post-degree courses, masters and teacher training, has had a strong emphasis on real education issues and how to enhance productive learning experiences for adult students as well. I taught at the University of Palermo as a contract Professor of Computer Assisted Language Learning, designing and teaching online language activities in 3D virtual worlds, particularly in Second Life (I also designed two pilot courses of Italian for the foreign institutions involved in that project). In addition to my teaching qualification I have completed a certificate in Teaching Languages with Technology (validated by Trinity College London), an international post-degree course in Teaching and Learning with MUVEs (MUVEnation), a Master in Advanced designing of Italian FL and a culture syllabus (University of Venice Ca’ Foscari) and some employment experience in the media and communications industry. My work with online activities motivated me to gain an education qualification so that I could work more directly with students in a teaching role and make a positive difference in their lives, using social technologies to promote motivation and inclusion of students with different skills and to improve oral production through emotional engagement. I have participated in a range of education-related experiences in government schools over many years. These experiences have enabled me to develop my skills in planning and implementing meaningful learning experiences for learners within the context of Italian curriculum guidelines. From my practical placements, full-time work and voluntary work I have gained a great appreciation of the importance of the role of teachers at all levels of education. I am a self-motivated and enthusiastic person with a strong passion to develop my career in secondary and adult education in a multicultural environment.

I'm in the process of developing an ARG for a philosophy course this fall and would like to make a machinima to use in it, as well as to learn how to make machinimas for educational purposes and just for fun :^). I'm an alum of two previous P2PU moocs - Virtual Worlds & ARG - which I much enjoyed; in a way this course is a follow-up to those.
Public Set Answer:
Using Screencast-O-Matic, I made two machinimas some time back, just to see if I could - very rough stuff, really. My skills are, to say the least, crude.

I have been in SL 7+ years. Being newly retired, I am at last able to pursue interests in virtual world 3D creation, teaching and learning. I was both a web developer and taught web development for 5 years in a graduate program in library and information science. In the InWorldz grid, I built a community library that gets a lot of support. I look forward to working on a team. I use a 2012 iMac.
Location: InWorldz, Second Life, Kitely and Southern California
Standard Set Answer:
I take a lot of snapshots in InWorldz and originally in Second Life. I believe Machinima is my next step.
I may be interested in helping with Mooc at some point. This summer I am concentrating on expanding my knowledge.
Public Set Answer:
I took a class a year or so ago at the CVL in Second Life. I used SnapZ Pro. However, I was not happy with the final product. I did not return to machinima right away because learning to be better builder and terraforming and building out my sims took up my spare time.
I do love what Torley does.
So many events I attend would be enhanced with a combination of snapshots interspersed with machinima. I also plan to return to exploring other virtual world grids and would like to do tours in machinima.

I am an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco in the ESL Program and the Digital Media and Learning Graduate Program. In addition, I train teachers bound for China and do web design. I have two master's degrees (one in Linguisics and one in Digital Media and Learning).
Location: San Francisco
Standard Set Answer:
I took a Second Life course in 2010 at the University of San Francisco and fell in love with machinima.
I hope to learn more intermediate skills because the scant training available doesn't take one to the next level. I keep getting the initial steps, but often classes don't address intermediate skills. I would also like to learn about Space Navigator as it is a tricky aspect of the machinima learning curve and is an important element in the machinima toolkit. I understand it's best to use Space Navigator in the left hand and a mouse in the right hand (according to Pia Klaar/majenh http://www.youtube.com/user/majenh). I would love to learn more about capturing / recording in SL. I would like to learn more about avatar controls and AOs when recording (how to make avatars look at the camera, eye contact, etc.) And finally, I would like to learn about best practices when recording sound in world. Is it better to use Skype in tandem with SL recording?
I don't really have time to help the mooc organization at the moment, but I will consider it in the future.
Public Set Answer:
Yes, I have been making machinimas for two years. It has become my passion. I am continually integrating machinima into my language teaching and teacher training.
My favorite machinima is by Pia Klaar "Life is Wonderful" http://youtu.be/-g-NLnMxSyQ. How I envy her camera movement and lighting effects. I'm so very tired of my jerky camera movements.
I need to learn more about camera and avatar movement in machinima. Once I have captured, I'm very comfortable with the workflow that follows (I'm on a Mac, but I'm PC/Windows literate). I need to learn more about the tricks of the trade in world. I have been making machinimas for two years now, and I find the postproduction very easy. What I need is to learn effective skills for capturing a quality video in world. I would love to know how Chantal Harvey and Pia Klaar get such beautiful in-world footage. How do they work it? What is their workflow? What do we need to know about their methods in world to achieve great shoots?

I have dallied in machinima over the years but would love to learn some advanced skills, discover more tools, and would like to develop a list of topics for myself that would help motivate me to machinimize more.
I'm not sure I can be much help with the mooc due to my rl work load but anything I can do to help I will do.
Public Set Answer:
I've many times recorded ISTE SIGVE Speaker Sessions for archival purposes and I have as I say "dallied" with other productions, once thinking I would start a video podcast of interesting SL locations.
Can't say I have a favorite, though I have one created by Pooky Amsterdam for MUVErs (now defunct) that was intended to promote the MUI, an inworld user interface for simulating emergency room procedures for nursing education, that is pretty stellar. We never released it for public use but it could be leaked, lol.
I think machinima can help our still-expanding (>2400 members in the international organization) SIGVE tribe convey that it's not all sex and bondage, disco and dueling, in virtual worlds.

Are you interested in helping with the mooc organization?

Sure. Teaching online is something that I do. I prefer not to clean the toilets. Well, okay, I will be in there anyway. Y'awright, whatever.
Public Set Answer:
I've helped friends in a few scenes by bringing an avatar in once in awhile, but never anything more.
I think my favorite machinima project would have to be one of Rose Borchovski's videos, but I couldn't pick to tell you which. Miso Susanowa has also been working on an extended project for some time, and I've been honored to see pieces of that as it comes to fruition. I also really love Miso's other work, especially Three-Ring Circus and Wizzy Makes a Klein Bottle that she did with Wizard Gynoid.
My favorite machinima are those that create impressions -- sense images. Second Life to me is very sensuous, very rich, and embodied. But I'd like to see ways to do that that don't discount that we also work there. Is there a way to shoot a business video that looks neither too flat nor too smexy?

Rurik (Rory) Nackerud is an educator who has worked in a variety of settings both as a teacher and sign language interpreter, currently he works online at both the secondary and post-secondary levels. In recent years he has become increasingly active in educational technology and applying best practices to both professional development and student interactions. He recently graduated with his Masters in the Art of Teaching and is already looking to further his education with a doctoral degree. He enjoys working with secondary students as a language arts, science and computer science teacher while continuing to present workshops and trainings virtually and in person. He recently helped with an experimental course using World of Warcraft as a method of exploring leadership skills and qualities called World of Teachcraft. With other members of the CenterforEdupunx he is currently exploring engagement strategies using augment reality and commercial games. In other professional work Rurik has shared an opinion piece, published with the International Society for Technology in Education's (ISTE) magazine Learning and Leading, writing about Professional Networks and whether they can replace professional development. Also, for the 2011 ISTE conference in Philadelphia, he presented a poster session on blending classrooms between virtual and real world settings. Previously he presented at the Global Education online conference, Virtual World's Best Practice in Education, UnSymposium, and the Oregon Council for Teachers of English. Finally, Rurik co-authored a book chapter on adopting commercial-off-the-shelf games with Kae Novak, an instructional designer in Colorado. As a learner Rurik focusses heavily on understanding the tools of tomorrow and how to equip his students to develop and use technology of all types to better themselves and the world. Whether taking graduate classes, open courses, attending a conference or workshop, or participating in a Massively Online Open Course, Rurik strives to be on the cutting edge of innovation and share what he learns. As a teacher he participates in his classes as a learner as well, sharing, encouraging, and learning with his students.

I love the ability of machinima to capture the spirit of events and locations in an artful form. It is also a fabulous way to document events which are temporary by nature.
I have longed for the ability to create something that reflects the joy of community and, in particular, preserve the experience of the large groups of volunteers who work on events with myself and others.
If there is a way I can help and contribute I would be thrilled.

I have attempted to make one or two machinima and failed miserably but was much more successful as an extra in works done by others.
