This course will become read-only in the near future. Tell us at community.p2pu.org if that is a problem.

Share your own skills during the course

Most days there will be a dedicated time in the programme for a skillshare. Is there a skill or method that you use that you would like to introduce to the group? Is there something you are really passionate about that you would like to share? Do you have a presentation about your work? Is there an activity that you know of that you think fits in with the theme of the course?

This is not compulsory, because if all 18 participants wanted to share something then we would have to run the course for an extra week! We encourage you to let us know what you are thinking by the 22nd October and we will try to weave it into the programme giving you your own space to share - be it for 15minutes or up to an hour. All of you will be sharing skills and ideas throughout the week in the activities we are already planning.

Task Discussion

I thought about it, and most of my skills include either location-specific knowledge (like Estonian forest herbs) or sharp and heavy objects hard to transport (like window repairing, woodcarving, or succulents). also, I'm afraid I'm much better in one-on-one-conversation than giving presentations.

If, however, there is time and enough interested people, I could talk a bit about dreaming. I dream of doing a dream-workshop, with theory and practice of natural sleep remedies, bits of mindfulness meditation, lucid dreaming etc. but it woild take way too long (a day and a night), and need some serious focusing on the subject.. but I could talk a bit about the different practical and theoretical approaches to dreaming, and share some ideas.

It doesn't take much preparation on my part, so we can see if there will be time for this topic as we go along, right? I'm running of to Estonian countryside for the weekend, and will possibly have more ideas by the start of the new week.

    Maarja,

I just wrote you an email about a dream-based-skill share. Let me know if you like it! It would be in a morning time on the day we are sharing our our dreams for the future, and when we're working with group wisdom. Have a nice time on the country side.

Hi, the skills I would like to share is taking sauna for your health and fitness. Sauna what I mean is not Finnish type of sauna (the dry one), bet the sauna with steam and lots of activities which benefit your body and spirit. Maybe it does not say anything for southern nations but those who live more north definitely know what I am speaking about. Briefly characteristics would be: Latvian sauna  is more like Russian sauna with temperature about 80-90 °C, pouring water (or herb tea) over hot rocks to get steam (aroma therapy), massaging (slightly beating) yourself with braches of trees combined with herbs which is prepared in midsummer. I have such sauna in my house and we are a group of sauna lovers who take this “ritual” every Saturday. I will see if I can prepare some presentation.

We wish we had a sauna for you to show us, too!

Let us know how much time you need, or what you might need to make it happen. It could be a skill-share time slot, or one of our presentation time-slots :)

    Looking forward!

Hello Inara, could you please bring photo's of your sauna. Here in Ireland especially in the North West where I live ther are very ancient Sauna's knowen as "Sweat houses". They are made from stone and look like a very large beehive and gave been around for a 1000 years or maybe more.

    Regards John

Hello -I'm just not that skilled! And a lot of the stuff I do is quite specific to the area I'm living in such as firelighting with natural materials or would involve me trying to lug a craft kit over to Spain!

But if people are interested we could do 15 minutes or so on a couple of fun, nature connection activities which are nice to do with groups - very simple games and/poems which can be used if you are working with children or just want to get  groups to engage with their surroundings.

We could also share any other nature connection activities which participants may use when with groups.

Let me know what you think.

I could show how to recicle old dresses and make useful things like carpets or/and other small useful objects.

I could also show pictures and share my experience with the eco-villages based on the series of books of a Russiann writer - "The ringing cedars of Russia". I  could explane the general concept. A lot of villages of this type have been built in many countries, especially in those from the ex-Soviet Union.

'The ringing cedars' books are so popular here - looking forward to hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

    John!
Thank you for your interest in this.

The idea for this 'skill share' is related to the personal skills you have in line with the passion you have.

To help it fit with the themes of the course, we are hoping that in giving your presentation related to fracking that you can aim to relate it to a skill - Basically that it can be more than what we might learn, for example, in a documentary or from a websearch about fracking.

We know you have understanding about the implications of fracking; it's such an important issue (especially to me, because where I come from our water tables have been very messed up!)... So...

How can you link this knowledge into a skill share? - for example, maybe it's (as you put it in your application) linking it into a skill around how to work with difficult environmental issues in grassroots organisations 'who have a core ethos of environmental protection'. Or maybe it's another related skill... :)

Does this clarify the purpose of the skill-share?

And, let us know how much time you're thinking...

If it's not a skill you want to share, and rather you're most keen on a presentation about fracking issues, we can set up spaces for presentations not in skill share times, but in our evenings.

    Getting excited,

    -Cassandra
