General: Identify Useful Learning Resources

Let's collaboratively build a library of resources for this group. I know that I spend a lot of time procrastinating by looking at productivity blogs and writing sites, when it would be easier to just sit and write!

Let's share those links and use them to identify tasks that we can work on.

There are some links added already to the External Links section, but it may be more productive to we use this task area to organise links by category. My category ideas are:

  • EtherPad [free]
  • Ulysses: a "no nonsense" text editor for word-warriors [paid]
  • Tinderbox: a peerless, powerful writing tool. Somebody once described this as the equivalent for writers to Photoshop for photographers. High praise, even as the learning curve has you doing mental push-ups [paid]

    An 8hour introductory course on "Writing what you know" - helped me to give rich situational descriptions.

    A nice exercise could be to describe the P2PU interface /actions in the course.

    Hello Laura!

    I am curious - did you complete the study unit? As for myself, I have printed it out, read it sitting in the backyard and did two of the exercises. For actually "learning" that is, completing the tasks and refining my writing, I would have needed more community atmosphere - something that P2PU definetely has but OpenLearn lacks - at least from my point of view. However, it's also quite possible that I just have been to lazy to go through with the course....

    Hi Stefanie,

    No, I haven't completed it, I bookmarked it for later. I've been a bit busy at the moment, unfortunately. But if you find a something in there that you think would be a good exercise here, post it ask a Task!

    It's not laziness that keeps you from going through the course, it's probably just the 7 million other things that are to be done :)

    that looks like a great set of exercises. The content's openly licensed so we can use it in P2PU. 

    I've just messaged everyone that I'd like to tighten up the structure for the group and to close this iteration by the end of December. After that interested people can use the structure to run their own version of Blogging and Writing on the Web. Otherwise I fear that new people will continue to signup and we'll never move forward.

    Perhaps in early 2012 we could work through Writing What You Know as a course here on P2PU that lasts for 6 weeks or so?
