This four-week course will facilitate a fire hose of new thinking about the nexus of software, journalism and news. Over the next few weeks, you’ll be working on your own ideas to help shape the future of the news industry that we’ll invite you to pitch.
A knowledge (and love) of the open web is helpful for this course…an interest in learning more is essential.

RE: Stijn's idea, I think I'm in favor of something along these lines. I think today's topic clearly illustrated the power of a partner and collaborator/co-conspirator.
And while we certainly aren't shy about reaching out to one another, some kind of time set aside to network in a more formal environment might be interesting and help us and our "idea" grow.
That said, if anyone is interested in some information conversations on IM, my aim is chrislkeller.

Hiya. A question/proposal with regards to the blog assignment. As I understand it, blogging about some of the topics related to the two lectures we've received this week would be good-ish, blogging about your project idea and how those lectures are influencing your idea much better. But many of us including myself have submitted three, four, five ideas and it's not an easy task deciding which idea to pursue so early in the process.
Additionally, our valued MoJo shepherds have let us know that they're open to collaborative projects. Many people have expanded a little bit on their specific plans in their introduction, but many others haven't, and I personally don't have a clue who's looking to partner up and who'd rather go it alone.
Wouldn't it be a good thing if we could arrange some sort of a (formal or informal) get-together over IRC to discuss and pitch and get feedback on our respective project/product ideas, and to team up for people so inclined? Perhaps after the lecture on Friday? Any interest in this from others?

Good question and ideas here! Sounds like you're asking/proposing a couple things here...in response:
1) Yes, that's correct: we're looking to you to respond to and apply the concepts presented in the lecture to your own idea(s)....and not simply repeat the lecture.
2) Yes, ideally, it would be great if you could build on one of your idea. We hope the blogs will help set the groundwork for your final project (to be posted very soon).
That said, we understand that you may change your idea(s) as you begin blogging...and the blogging assignment (aside from giving us a sense of what you're taking away from the lectures) will help us get a sense of who you are and how you work...
3) On that note, collaborating on a project is an excellent idea! However, it is a short lab and this may not always be possible to coordinate. So, when you're blogging about your project think about the ways in which your project could be worked on as a team and possibly encourage collaboration...
