As a humanities student, I have yet been able to engage in web-designing, programming, and technological studies. Although I have always been interested in learning how to design a website, I have been unable to find a source for learning about programming.
By participating in this study group, I hope to gain basic knowledge of programming so as to help design websites for personal blogs and information access.
I am a complete novice in programming. However, I wil be interested in participating in the study group organization to help with whatever it needs as long as it is within my abilities.

web developer in training
Location: Oxford
Standard Set Answer:
I have been studying Web Development with the Open University for the last two years. Javascript was the first programming language I was exposed to after learning html/css.
The problem I have with JS is that I struggle to grasp all the concepts, maybe its was because it was the first scripting language and so it's created some sort of mental block. I dont have the same problems with Coldfusion/PHP/MySQL. So I think that maybe going back to basic will help get me over this hurdle.
At the moment I am unsure if I can/ will help with the study guide organisation, only because this platform is new to me.

During my working life I started out as a Production Engineer for the first ten years or so. Worked for an automobile maker in Sydney (I worked on the infamous P-76!) and other engineering companies.
Moved to Canberra and was employed by the Australian Government for thirty years. I have always believed that if someone cannot give money(which they shouldn't have 2) they should contribute out of appreciation of their newly aquuired skills, and the ability to further those skills.

I've been a hardcore Linux user since 8 years ago; but I've never really been interested on developing until 2010. Now I'm starting to learn developing languages on my own: (my favorite are Bennu GD, ad C with it's Allegro Library to develop games), and for personal and professional interest Java it's really exciting to learn: I read some articles of Jquery, Java on OOP and I want to learn it.
What I want with contributing to the group? Well, giving the best of me answering some doubts and meeting people that can help me to surpass my difficulties when I'll be studing Java, developing some open-source code and uploading them to the net, make some community project. One for all, and all for one :-)
I don't have much free time so I'm sorry that I couldn't help to organize study group, I'm married with 2 children and I have a lotta things to do.
That's all.
Take care, see you in the class!
