Introduction to the Course
Welcome to the Virtual Worlds, Games and Education MOOC
This course is designed for people who want to learn more about virtual worlds and multi-player games for education. Please think of this as an unconference after a large structured 3 day conference like VWBPE. It is not required for you to have attended VWBPE to participate in this course.
It is designed for all levels of particpation. We are using the matrix from Dr. Lisa Dawley's Social Network Knowledge Construction as the model for the course.
So feel free to participate at whichever level you want.
1) Identifying Network Opportunities
2) Lurking
3) Contributing
4) Creating
5) Leading
We understand that certain weeks may be of more interest to you than others, so please feel free to vary your participation week by week. It is also totally acceptable to start during Week 3 - World of Warcraft or Week 4- Bleeding Edge. That's what an open course is - open! Your faciliators are passionate about their topics and do want to share and collaborate openly in a non-institutional fashion.
If you haven't done a MOOC or an Open Course, please start by reading About VWMOOC.
If you did attend the conference, please take a look at this post about using the MOOC as a reflective space. Also please participate on reflecting on what you learned here in the P2P course.
To get started in this course especially if you have never been in a virtual world, please start by reading Getting Started. We do have some additional Modules you may want to read. They are Virtual Worlds Research and Assessments in Virtual Worlds. It is not required that you do these.
