Standard Set Answer:I am interested in this topic because I want to improve my web design skills. I understand that Javascript is very valuable skill if you want to improve the look of your website and want to write code yourself.
By participating, obviously, I hope learn more about Javascript. I've done a bit of it before but they don't seem to be the things that I need. So, this is more of a bit like an upgrade.
I am interested in organizing the study group. But given the current skills I have, I am not sure I'll be able to do a lot besides point people to places where they can get resources - places that I already know about, like the MDN.

Web Developer in the making.
I've pretty much mastered the fundamentals of XHTML and CSS 2.1 and am now refining and expanding that knowledge as preparation for HTML5 and CSS3, while learning Javascript, with jQuery to follow. Then it's HeadFirst Ajax and Ajax for Web Application Developers, read in conjunction with Apache Essentials and Apache Cookbook.
And then, graduation to PHP and MySQL! I'm very eager to sink my teeth into Larry Ullman's books, among others.
I'm also reading Learning Unix for Mac OS X Tiger and Mac OS X for Unix Geeks. The GUI just doesn't do it for me; I want to know what's going on under the hood. Once I dabbled with Ubuntu Linux, I was hooked on the kind of control and power you have over your OS. Plus, it's simply faster and more reliable. I use Mac to develop out of necessity but also continue to learn Ubuntu on my other machine.
I have been a serious student of philosophy since highschool, play a mean game of Chess, like to exercise and stay fit and healthy, look forward to owning a motorcycle and have long been plotting my escape from Nyc to Maine or Vermont or Alaska, maybe even Canada or Iceland, or wherever I can enjoy the beauty of nature.
Location: Nyc, USA
Standard Set Answer:My interest in Web Development began after I had completed courses in A+ and N+, and while I still maintain an interest in those areas, I pursued a curiosity I had always had about the internet, how it worked, how webpages--and now web applications--worked, how servers and server side programming work. The "View Source" menu option was the concrete start of it all. My first book was HeadFirst HTML with CSS & XHTML, and here I am.
I hope that by participating in the groups I will expand my own knowledge through learning from those who know more, troubleshooting development problems--markup, layout and programming-- with other members of the group, and sharing what I know as well.
I am interested in helping with the study group organization, depending on what it involved and how much time it would require.
