posted message: I have never played WoW and would like to prepare myself ahead of time. I will be playing on my son's account, and will have assistance from him to help me get oriented to the game. But he and I would like to know before I install all of the software and patches on my computer what criteria I need to meet, to be ready to participate in this task? I would have directed this inquiry to the leader of this task, but I cannot find who that is.

    Hi Penelope,

Cat and I will be doing the facilitating for Week 3 - World of Warcraft

First grab your son. Here's some instructions for him.

We're going to be on the US server ( yes we are an international conference - so we have to put that information in)

We are going on the "Sisters of Elune" realm - RP ( Role Playing)

We will be making an alliance character and a horde character. We want you to see both sides. As far as add-ons - if you're playing a beginning character none needed.

On Monday, April 2 - we will be going over the different classes and races. We will also be making a Horde character. So we will be in the troll/orc starting area. So if this is your first time and don't have a guide on the side, please make a troll or orc.

On Wednesday, April 4 - we will be making an alliance character. So we will be at the dwarf starting area. So it this is your first time and don't have a guide on the side, please make a dwarf.

We're really doing an exploration here. So go ahead and look at some of the characters. It's like Second Life in that if you pick a name that someone else has chosen - then you have to come up with another one.

If you feel like making the character early - go ahead. Unless you like playing games by yourself - soloing can be a little lonley. So if anyone have a character - email me in P2P and if you have a regular account we have guilds they go into. If you have a trial account, then we can make sure you are in the right area. But we do want to make sure you are in the right place on Monday and Wednesday.

The two guilds that we are working with are Cognitive Dissonance ( Cog Dis) on the Alliance side. It is a level 25 educators' guild. It has all the perks and privledges of being a big established guild. It is pretty active every week day between 5 pm - 11 pm EST. It is also active during that time on the weekends. Cog Dis has a good number of high level (85) characters. It is currently in the process of gathering a group of 85s to do the end game content ( Dragon Soul). Everyone is welcome no matter what level or skill.

The other guild on the Horde Side, Inevitable Betrayal is a level 2 guild and climbing. In fact, everday we check our achievements and celebrate every one of them - every time. This is very small guild of Hordie educators with the express purpose of becoming a group of Mercenary Healers with a few tanks thrown in. "Heals Furnished by Inevitable Betrayal" see - the role play coming in here. Honestly, we just want to have fun leveling a guild on the Horde side.

Yes - we started a flickr group and as you can see we have a couple of SL pics up there too! Feel free to join and put up your screenshots  http://www.flickr.com/groups/inevitable/

On a pc - to get rid of the toolbar in WoW - click on alt + z and alt +z to get it back.

Feel free to ask more questions!

I love the alt-z tip!  Is there any way to remove the names also -- for photo taking?

Thank you so much Kae! I did grab my son, and we think we know what we need to do for me - looks like we can stay, "vanilla" version only. He has all sorts of expansion packs,,,, I need to keep it as simple as possible!

That's fine. And "vanilla' is focal vocabulary - cool that your son is passing along the culture. Vanilla is fine.

Yes - there is but it is a little lengthier process.

    This is for PC

    Click on "Esc'

    Click on "Interface"

    Clik on"Names"

    Uncheck everything

But make a note of what you unchecked, because you'll want those back to when you questing.

The default there for most people is

    Friendly Players

        Pets

    Enemy Players

        Pets

    Guild Names

         Titles

    Enemy Players

During VWBPE I did also make an unofficial "cog dis" flickr site - feel free to join or post. http://www.flickr.com/groups/cogdis/

There's a beginner's guide for World of Warcraft on their website-- http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/guide/

It's just the basic intro--and then the game guide-- http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/ --gets more into the races and classes to choose from (amongst other stuff).
